7 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER ASK SIRI, GOOGLE ASSISTANT OR ALEXA

Apple keeps track of where you go and how often you visit. It can then make suggestions based on what it calls Important Locations. You may see these as calendar events or map address alerts.

Sure, it’s useful, but not everyone likes it. You can delete this list.

  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location services > System services.
  • Tap Important locations.
  • Hit the Delete history button.

You’re sending more than a selfie.

Most people don’t realize how much they share when they text a picture. Almost every social networking site removes metadata that reveals the fine details of a photo, such as when, where, and how it was taken. But that information is No Protected if you send a photo via text message. You can stop that.

Turn off Bluetooth when you don’t need it

Bluetooth works similar to Wi-Fi and cellular networks but performs simpler tasks at shorter distances. You don’t need a cellular signal or network connection to use Bluetooth and it doesn’t use data. And like any other connection, it is not 100% secure.

Hackers and scammers must be close to you to use Bluetooth and hijack your phone. But in almost any public space, you’re within walking distance of strangers.

My advice: turn off Bluetooth when you are not using it. Keeping it active all the time makes your device more recognizable. As a bonus, keeping Bluetooth turned off will increase your device’s battery life.

  • On an iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and change it off. You can also swipe down from the top right of the screen to open Control Center and tap the Bluetooth icon.
  • The same steps work for Android phones. Gonna Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Bluetooth and change it off. (Note: The steps vary depending on your phone model. Search or search for Bluetooth if these steps do not match your phone.)

Airplane mode also disables Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, among other things, so it works in a pinch, but you won’t receive calls or texts.

Change your pen for a safer one

It’s a little crazy to me that check fraud is increasing in a big way. Criminals go to mailboxes and target envelopes that look like mailed checks or bill payments.

Check laundering is the most common type. check fraud. This is where a criminal steals a check from the mail and alters the payee’s name in order to cash it. They often change the amount of money as well.

If you need to write a check, use a security pen, also known as a check washing pen. Uni-ball 207 series pens (4 for about $10 on Amazon) They use specially formulated ink that gets trapped in the paper, making it difficult for criminals to wash or erase the ink from a check.

To be safer, skip the mailbox and take your checks directly to your local post office. More smart steps here if there is an increase in mail fraud in your area.

Don’t forget that criminals also like to disconnect

Thieves still use old-school tactics that they think we’ve all forgotten. We’re too smart for that, right?

  • In public, keep your purse and wallet close. Bring only the cards you will use.
  • Keep in mind who’s nearby when you pull out your phone and hide your screen while you enter your PIN.
  • Leave your Social Security Cardbirth certificate and passport at home unless you really need them.
  • Shred old bills and financial records before throwing them away. I use this shredder.
  • Review your credit report and bank statements regularly. Here’s how to get a free report.

If you get scammed, resist the temptation to stay silent. Report fraud, scams and bad business practices to FTC. If you provided your Social Security number, contact the SSA immediately.
