Best open wireless headphones for 2023

Cleer’s original Arc headphones were solid sports headphones that featured decent sound for open-style headphones that sit over your ears and emit sound into them. This new-for-2023 model improves sound quality and offers additional refinements and feature updates, including a new “upgraded” charging case with UV sterilization and multi-point Bluetooth connectivity (Bluetooth 5.3), all making it a significantly improved product .

Cleer says the Arc 2 Sport earbuds feature “greater flexibility for greater comfort” and I found them more comfortable to wear than the original Arcs. That said, not everyone loves this style of open-back headphones, which let sound in so you can hear the ambient sound around you for safety reasons.

With a new six-axis motion sensor, you can control the buttons with head gestures: you answer calls by nodding and skip tracks forward by turning your head to the right and skip a track backward by turning your head to the left. Fortunately, those motion controls can be disabled if you don’t want to use them.

These are among the first headphones to support Qualcomm’s aptX Lossless format, if you’re one of the few who has an Android device that supports that audio codec (many Android phones support aptX Adaptive). Since these are not high-end noise isolating headphones, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference in sound quality (I couldn’t), but other than that, they sound very good for open-style headphones. . They lack a bit of oomph in their bass, but they are punchy enough, offer good clarity, and don’t distort at higher volumes. They also played quite loudly.

They have an IPX5 water and sweat resistance rating, meaning they can withstand a sustained spray of water, and the battery life is very good, up to eight hours on a single charge, plus there are just over three charges extras in the slim but somewhat bulky Charging Case. It’s large compared to an AirPods charging case, but slender compared to other cases that house this style of earbuds.

These offer respectable performance for voice calls, but callers said they heard a certain amount of white noise when I spoke to them from the noisy streets of New York; That hissing sound is the byproduct of the headphones’ noise reduction efforts. .
