Britney Spears’ ‘Crossroads’ Director Talks Streaming and Sequel Rights

With the Britney Spears-starring Crossing adjusted to returns to theaters this week coinciding with the publication of his memoirs The woman in meThe director of the 2002 comedy-drama talked about a possible sequel and eventual streaming availability in a new interview.

Spears writes extensively about her work in Crossing in his book, saying he didn’t like the “method acting” for the film. “I hope to never come close to that occupational risk again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is a disaster. After a while, you don’t know what’s real anymore,” Spears said of her only leading role.

Despite that experience, it was actually Spears who suggested that Crossing – which was not available on any streaming service – will be re-released alongside her memoir. speaking to Entertainment Weekly, director Tamra Davis said: “Sony called me because Britney called and got a pick up because she wanted me to help her launch her book. One phone call from Britney and she’ll be available!”

After its brief theatrical run this week, Davis anticipates a streaming release soon after. “I think that’s what they’re going to work on now, getting a streaming deal. I’m sure we will. They’re dealing with offers now,” Davis said. “I had just seen her (I don’t remember how many years ago) at a London film festival and she was crazy. The theater was packed. People were singing and I was thinking, this movie is really important (and) it should be out there.”

Crossroads was written by a pre-Grey’s Anatomy Shonda Rhimes, and although the showrunner is busy with other projects within her Shondaland, Davis admits that Rhimes had “an idea” for a possible sequel, and that Spears’ team is at least involved in the conversation.

“I’m currently working with Van Toffler, who was the producer, and he (mentioned it). “I think he’s been talking to Britney about it and her manager,” Davis said. “Britney, I don’t think she really wants to act that much, but I know Ann talked to Shonda about something, and Shonda had an idea, so who knows if she’ll have a life. But if so, let’s keep our fingers crossed that Shonda is involved because she is very bright. In her first feature film you could see the incredible voice she had of her and her understanding of female characters.”

Despite being devastated by critics upon its release, the film is highly appreciated by Spears’ fans, who will have the opportunity to see it. Crossing on the big screen on October 23 and 25 in one of the almost 900 movie theaters showing the film throughout the country. The screenings are interspersed around the premiere on October 24, The woman in mewhich full of explosive revelations.
