Former Bad Boy Artist Cassie Has Settled a Lawsuit Filed Against Be combs who accused the music mogul of rape.
The agreement came a day after the singer Cassandra Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs alleging that the Bad Boy Entertainment mogul raped and beat her over a decade-long period.
“I have decided to resolve this matter amicably in terms of me having some level of control. I want to thank my family, fans and attorneys for their unwavering support,” Ventura said in a statement distributed Friday evening by his attorney, Douglas Wigdor, of Manhattan-based Wigdor Law.
On Thursday, Combs’ team characterized the lawsuit as the result of a failed extortion attempt by an ex-girlfriend.
On Friday, in a statement also distributed by Wigdor, Combs said: “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”
The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. It names Bad Boy Records and other Combs-affiliated companies as complicit in the alleged abuse. Epic Records is also named as a defendant.
In announcing the settlement, Wigdor praised Ventura “for having the strength to go public with his lawsuit. She should be praised for doing so.”
The lawsuit was filed just a week before the Adult Survivors Act, which allowed for a waiver of the statute of limitations, expires on Nov. 23.
Combs’ attorney, Ben Brafman, vehemently denied the allegations Thursday. “For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand for $30 million, under threat of writing a damaging book about her relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blackmail. flagrant. Despite withdrawing the initial threat from her, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, with the goal of tarnishing Mr. Combs’ reputation and seeking a payday.”
