Detroit synagogue president found fatally stabbed outside her home

The president of a Detroit synagogue was found fatally stabbed outside her home Saturday morning.

Samantha Woll, 40, led downtown’s Isaac Agree synagogue. The synagogue confirmed Woll’s death Saturday in a statement that said, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Samantha Woll, our board president.”

“May his memory be a blessing,” the statement continued.

Police are investigating the crime and have not yet found a motive, according to the Detroit Free Press. In a statement obtained by the local newspaper, police said someone found Woll unconscious and lying on the ground.

Police found a trail of blood leading to his home, where they believe the crime occurred. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woll had ties to prominent local Democrats. He previously worked for Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and participated in Attorney General Dana Nessel’s re-election campaign.

“Sam was the kindest person I’ve ever met,” Nessel said.

“She was driven by her sincere love for her community, state and country. “Sam really used her faith and activism to create a better place for everyone.”
