Nominations have been announced for the Game Awards 2023, which recognizes the best games and creators of the year in the video game industry.
Two of the biggest sequels of the year: Remedy Entertainment’s survival horror title Alan Wake 2 (up to the left) and the role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios (up to the right) – earned the most nominations with eight each, including Game of the Year. The other four titles rounding out the Game of the Year nominations are also from long-running franchises: Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Year. Nintendo Kingdom.
This year’s films and series nominated for Best Adaptation (category introduced for the first time last year) are: “Castlevania: Nocturne” (Netflix), “Gran Turismo” (Sony Pictures), “The Last of Us” (HBO) , “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Illumination/Universal Pictures) and “Twisted Metal” (Peacock).
nintendo is the game prizes‘most nominated publisher in 2023 with 15 nominations across its entire combined portfolio, followed by Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation with 13, Xbox (including Bethesda and Blizzard) with 10, and Epic Games with nine.
In total, the Game Awards 2023 nominees span 112 different games, individuals, teams, and events across multiple genres and platforms. Nominees are selected by a global jury made up of people from more than 100 media publications and influential outlets.
The 10th annual Game Awards will stream live from the Peacock Theater (formerly Microsoft Theater) in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 7, 2023, across more than 30 platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, TikTok Live, and X (aka Twitter). In addition to revealing the winners, the event will include premiere announcements and trailers, live music performances and celebrity appearances.
Until December 6 at 6 pm PT, fans will be able to help choose winners in all categories by voting online at thegameawards.com. Plus, for the second year in a row, fans can vote for Game Awards nominees on the awards show’s official Discord server (as well as join a live viewing party on December 7 and react to the winners on real time).
The Game Awards is executive produced by Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim. LeRoy Bennett is the creative director and Richard Preuss is the director.
