Dua Lipa is “ready to start the next chapter” after releasing her single “Houdini.” The three-time Grammy winner shared her excitement about releasing new music while speaking on the red carpet at Varieties Power of Women presented by Lifetime on Thursday night. A new album is expected next year, although no official release plans have been announced.
“I definitely have more music on the way. Right now I’m in the ‘Houdini’ world. “I’m thrilled to finally be signed to release new music,” Lipa shares. “Honestly, I noticed it very quickly: the intensity of everyone’s reaction. It’s amazing. It’s definitely the biggest reaction I’ve ever had to anything I’ve ever done. “I am very happy and ready to start this next chapter.”
lipa attended Varieties Power of Women event to present the Producer of the Year award to LuckyChap Entertainment and its co-founders Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, in honor of the production company’s ongoing commitment to championing female storytellers and filmmakers.
LuckyChap is producer of the highest-grossing movie of the year, “Barbie,” starring Robbie. Lipa is in the cast as Barbie Mermaid. Her original song “Dance the Night” was also one of the biggest hits on the film’s soundtrack and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
“It is really very exciting and a dream to be part of such a gigantic film. Is incredible. “I feel very lucky,” says Lipa. Variety in the rug. “It’s nice to see people’s response: all the energy behind the film, the meaning behind it, the solidarity between women. “It’s been beautiful to see.”
Lipa also teased her upcoming film role in Matthew Vaughn’s spy action film “Argylle,” which will be released in theaters in February 2024. The trailer shows Lipa dancing with Henry Cavill, firing a machine gun and riding away on a motorcycle.
“I had a lot of Fun. Honestly, being on a motorcycle and doing all the stunts was so much fun. And working with Henry was amazing. “Matthew is a great director,” Lipa shared, before clarifying: “There is no music for this one. Just concentrating on acting.”
Lipa released her new single, “Houdini,” earlier this month. Variety Executive music editor Jem Aswad praised the song as a “hit” that shows “both a progression and a continuation of ‘Future Nostalgia,’” Lipa’s last album, for which she won a Grammy Award for best pop vocal album.
Varieties Thursday night’s Power of Women event also honors Billie Eilish, Fantasia Barrino, Carey Mulligan and Lily Gladstone, along with other figures profiled in the publication’s annual Women’s Impact Report.
