Katy Perry will leave ‘American Idol’ after this season| Trending Viral hub

Katy Perry set off some fireworks on Monday night, revealing on the show “Jimmy Kimmel live” that this next season of “american idol“It will be the last one as a judge.

Perry was a guest on Monday night’s “Kimmel” show. When the host asked Perry how much longer she would stick with “Idol” (she’s been on the show for seven seasons, since moving to ABC in 2018), the singer said she was planning her exit after the next season. Perry said she was scheduled to perform at the “Rock in Rio” festival in June, but beyond that, she’s ready to move forward.

“I love ‘Idol’ so much that it connects me to the heart of America,” she told Kimmel. “But I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse of my own heartbeat.”

Perry joined the show with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and together the three have been judges on ABC’s “Idol” incarnation since it moved to the Alphabet network. But when asked if Bryan and Richie knew she was leaving, Perry admitted that “they’ll find out tonight.”

Is there a plan for Perry’s replacement? It doesn’t look like anything is ready yet. Perry noted that she, Bryan and Richie will now match the seven-season tenure of original “American Idol” judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson,” who helped launch the show on Fox in 2002. (Technically, the trio she stayed for eight seasons, but in season 8 they were joined by a fourth judge: Kara DioGuardi).

“I love the show, but I want to see the world,” Perry said. “Maybe I’ll come back if they have me someday.”
