Bloys said VarietyMichael Schneider said Witherspoon and Kidman have been in contact with “Big Little Lies” author Liane Moriarty and hopes David E. Kelley will also be involved.
“expatriates” is a six-episode limited series for Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Lulu Wang and based on the best-selling novel “The Expatriates” by Janice YK Lee, the series stars Kidman along with Sarayu Blue, Ji-young Yoo, Brian Tee and Jack Huston. The script focuses on women living in Hong Kong in 2014 whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy.
“I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to be able to champion these types of filmmakers,” Kidman told Variety. “I’m very happy to have had the opportunity to do that and to be able to share it.”
“She functions as a producer very differently than she does as an actor,” Wang said of Kidman. “As a producer, we’re talking about the big picture about the cast, the schedule and the overall vision. And as an actress, she doesn’t want to know any of those things…she wants to be molded by the director. As an actress, she arrives completely open and ready to take on whatever journey she and I decide to take that day.”
“Expats” premieres January 26 on Prime Video.
