forget the reality television #Scandoval fireworks or the explosive revelations of Britney Spears’ memoirs The woman in me – the title of best celebrity drama in 2023 goes to the out-of-nowhere (and thankfully low-stakes) rivalry between the new TV show. The course and upcoming romantic comedy Nobody but you.
The “dispute” began on November 16, when Sony abandoned the latest trailer Nobody but you. It begins with a clip of stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell introducing the trailer, where the two tease each other about who the real star of the film is.

“It really is my movie,” Sweeney tells Powell.
“Well, we’ll see whose movie it is when it comes out,” he replies.
The jokes certainly have character given the plot of Nobody but you, which sees two bitter enemies (Sweeney and Powell) pretending to be in a relationship while at a wedding. However, the chemistry in the trailer clip is a little…awkward. And who better to lean on that discomfort than the king of shame himself, Nathan Fielder?
Fielder currently stars alongside Emma Stone in Showtime and A24 The course, a surreal comedy he co-created with Benny Safdie. The series, a dark satire about two housewives trying to film an HGTV-style reality show, is so far from Nobody but you how can it be. However, on November 17, A24 published a new trailer for The course – one with an eerily familiar opening.

That’s right: In one day, Fielder and Stone were able to pull off a perfect parody of the Sweeney and Powell trailer intro. The details are perfect, from Fielder’s white polo shirt to Stone’s imitation of Sweeney’s exasperated eyes. Give him another Oscar, now!
But the rivalry between Nobody but you and The course — again, two very unrelated projects! – didn’t stop there. Powell tweeted at Fielder that the parody “doesn’t count unless you follow the path to the end…” referring to a section of the trailer where she gets naked. (If you end up seeing The courseyou’ll see Fielder quite naked).
Fielder responded with a statement of his own, and you know it’s “Very Serious” because it’s in the Notes app. In it, he claims that he and Stone filmed the promotion for The course more than six months ago and that he is alarmed that Sony Pictures may have seen and copied it. In a conciliatory measure, he will not take legal action. Instead, he writes: “This will not stop us from supporting each other’s successes (sic), and I know that both Emma and I will personally reserve front row seats to Nobody but you opening night.” (Fielder also takes the statement as an opportunity to address the role of Artificial intelligence in the development of art, a key concern both in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.)

But wait, the story isn’t over yet! Nobody but you Director Will Gluck issued his own response on Instagram. (Notably, Gluck directed Stone in the teen comedy masterpiece easy one, in case there was still confusion about whether this is a friendly thing or not). Gluck’s statement is a classic Notes app apology, where he admits: gasp! — steal not only the concept of promotion to The course, but also its poster. He Curse-ified Nobody but you The poster sees Sweeney’s head Photoshopped over Stone’s, while Fielder and Safdie are swapped for Powell and Gluck.
Gluck ends his apology similar to Fielder’s own statement: “We in no way intend to stand in the way of your success; in fact, we celebrate it. I know we will all be watching.” The course when it premieres in January.” (The course It actually came out on November 10, but Gluck’s heart is in the right place.)

There you have it: a day-long fight with laughs, twists, and a proper resolution. congratulations to Nobody but you and The course for supporting each other and reconciling their briefest disputes. This has truly been one of the most fun cross promotions since the heyday of Barbenheimer.
