Who is Jo Koy? The Golden Globes host is a popular comedian| Trending Viral hub

From selling out stadiums to releasing several successful stand-up specials and publishing an autobiography, Jo Koy has already marked several important milestones in his comedy career. He can now score something else: hosting the 2024 Golden Globes. This will be Koy’s first appearance as host of a major awards show.

Koy, whose comedy often focuses on his family and Filipino identity, is known for his “Funny Is Funny World Tour” and five stand-up specials on Comedy Central and Netflix. His style focuses on storytelling, conveying his own experiences in a way that everyone can relate to.

“Comedy is like music, there are different genres” Koy said Variety in 2020. “In music there is country, jazz, R&B and in comedy there are impersonators, political commentators, puppets… all kinds of different styles. I will never juggle or talk about politics; “I am a storyteller.”

In 2022, he starred in the Universal Pictures feature film “Easter Sunday,” which is based on his personal experiences and comedy routines. He also recently appeared in Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” and voiced the character Bendo in Netflix’s “Monkey King.”

But Koy’s path to success in stand-up and acting was not without its obstacles. In fact, he said Variety in 2020 who bombed his first stand-up performance as a young man at Las Vegas’ “Starmania,” where people performed at local bars. “My mouth turned chalky. “She forgot everything she wanted to say,” he recalled. Still, that experience didn’t deter Koy, who wanted to be a comedian since he was 11 years old.

After dropping out of college, Koy still lived in Las Vegas and worked various day jobs, finding few performance opportunities. A chance meeting with future “Sopranos” star Steve Schirripa, who at the time was working as a comedy booker on the Riviera, advised Koy to go to Los Angeles to work at his craft. Taking her advice to heart, Koy drove five hours to Los Angeles’ Laugh Factory, where she met her good friend Tiffany Haddish.

“I’ve never seen it fail, and I don’t know if I can say the same about any other comic. It’s always fun, whether it’s a sold-out house or just five people in the audience. From day one I thought I was a superstar. I thought, ‘This guy is going to be the most famous guy in the world,'” Haddish said. Variety in 2020.

Koy got his big break performing as a stand-up comedian on an episode of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and later appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “@Midnight With Chris Hardwick,” “The Joy Behar Show.” ”, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “Jamie Foxx: Laffapalooza”. He also appeared in more than 100 episodes of “Chelsea Lately,” Chelsea Handler’s late-night series on E!.

The comedian points to the day his life changed when his first Netflix special, “Jo Koy: Live From Seattle,” aired in March 2017. From that point on, Koy sold out shows, filmed more specials , got movie offers and, now, is a master of ceremonies. great awards ceremonies.
