As Nepal continues to grapple with the devastating earthquake that has claimed more than 157 lives, another earthquake, measuring 3.6, struck the Himalayan nation in the early hours of Sunday.

The earthquake occurred at 04:38:20 (IST) at a depth of 10 kilometers, 169 kilometers NW of Kathmandu, the National Center for Seismology said.

“Earthquake of magnitude: 3.6, occurred on 11 May 2023, 04:38:20 IST, latitude: 28.63 and longitude: 83.94, depth: 10 km, location: 169 km northwest of Kathmandu, Nepal,” NCS posted on X (formerly Twitter).

This comes after a strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck Nepal in the late hours of Saturday.

This was followed by further aftershocks, with a magnitude of 3.3, on Saturday afternoon, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the affected population and testing the region’s resilience.

Hours earlier, Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal assessed the situation and visited the affected regions, acknowledging the extensive damage.

In response, the government has mobilized the Nepal Army, the Nepali Sentinel and the Armed Police Force to carry out rescue operations using helicopters.

Health workers are also being rapidly deployed, equipped with essential medical supplies from surrounding districts.

“There has been a lot of damage in the earthquake-affected area. Hundreds of people have been injured, thousands of houses have been destroyed and our government is engaged in relief work. We have deployed the Nepalese Army, the Nepalese Sentinel. The Armed Police A The force has been entrusted with the responsibility of taking all the injured to hospitals for rescue through helicopters,” the Nepal Prime Minister said.

The impact of the earthquake has not been limited to Nepal alone. The tremors were felt in several districts of northern India, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
