The Beatles broke up decades ago and only two members remain alive, but they are about to release a single.

On Thursday, the Beatles’ official website Announced a song called “From time to time.” But here’s the kicker: the tune was created with AI audio software that captures John Lennon’s voice.

When will ‘Now and Then’ be released?

The new Beatles song will be released on November 2nd.

John Lennon wrote and recorded the demo before his murder in 1980. Previous technological limitations could not separate Lennon’s voice from the piano, making it unusable for sound engineering. However, the AI software developed by director Peter Jackson (and his team behind The Beatles: Return) successfully isolated Lennon’s voice, making it possible for The Beatles to play in the studio for the last time.

Did The Beatles give consent for this AI-assisted song?

There have been controversies surrounding the use of AI to create audio deepfakes, specifically a song by an anonymous creator. ghostwriter who used Drake and The Weeknd voices. But much of the outrage comes from a lack of consent. On the contrary, the remaining members of The Beatles were actively involved in making this AI-generated song a reality.

“There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional. And we all played on it. It’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023, still working on Beatles music and about to release a new song , the public hasn’t. “I haven’t heard it, I think it’s kind of exciting,” said Paul McCartney.

“It was the closest we got to having him back in the room, so it was very emotional for all of us,” Ringo Starr added.

object of ridicule In an interview with McCartney last June, Beatles fans were eagerly awaiting more details about the song. Lennon had recorded a demo of the song with his voice and piano in the 1970s, which was eventually given to the remaining members, McCartney, Starr and George Harrison in the 1990s by Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono. The demo was shelved until Jackson’s documentary series opened up new possibilities for extracting Lennon’s voice.

WingNut Films, Jackson’s production company, developed machine audio learning (MAL) technology, which unmixed the audio from the original documentary footage to Return. This allowed the filmmakers to isolate and remix instrumental and vocal audio, including juicy snippets of conversation. By applying MAL technology to the demo, Jackson and his team obtained the audio quality necessary to re-record the song with the remaining members of The Beatles.

Starr and McCartney completed the song in 2022 by adding their own parts and vocals. The song also featured guitar recordings by George Harrison, who died in 2001.

“If he were here today, Dhani and I know he would have wholeheartedly joined Paul and Ringo in completing the recording of ‘Now And Then,'” said Harrison’s widow Olivia.
