Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Mizoram electoral co-in-charge Anil Antony has exuded confidence in winning the assembly elections in the northeastern state, asserting that the party is all set to achieve its best-ever performance in the polls .
Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Anil Antony said the BJP will win most of the contested seats and it will be the party’s best performance in the state.
“BJP is contesting 23 seats here, and we are very confident that we will strongly contest and win most of the seats that we are contesting here, and I can assure you that this will be our best performance in the state of Mizoram,” Anil Antonio said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has a very limited presence in Mizoram, is trying hard to make headway in the northeastern state.
Candidates of different political parties are campaigning warlikely in every corner of their respective constituencies.
In the 2018 elections, the Congress and the MNF contested all 40 seats, the MNF won 28 and the Congress bagged five. The BJP contested 39 seats and won only one seat, while the ZPM candidates, who contested as independents, won six seats.
Since the separation of Mizoram as a state in 1987, after years of insurgency, state politics has been dominated by the Congress and the Mizo National Front (MNF) and has been governed alternately by both parties.
This time, the Zoramthanga-led Multinational Force has a slight lead, but the Zoram People’s Movement is expected to be a major player in the upcoming elections.
